Meet Dr. Lea Lis
Original Article by Bold Journey
Psychiatrist Dr. Lea Lis traces her sense of purpose back to her own experience of feeling different. Growing up at 6'3", she knew firsthand the isolation that comes with standing out, and that empathy deepened when she worked alongside her aunt, a psychiatric social worker, as a teenager. Those early experiences taught her that the very qualities that make us seem "strange" are what make us human, and that everyone is worthy and enough exactly as they are. Today she channels that belief into her work, helping children and adults rise above anger, learn to forgive, and stay present to life's joy, treating mistakes and unfairness not as setbacks but as some of our greatest teachers.
Lis is the founder of Hamptons Insight, where she offers a ketamine-assisted approach to healing and self-discovery. She describes the psychedelic experience as watching a movie of your own life, a kind of detached clarity that lets people examine their choices, reinterpret painful memories, and find forgiveness, often condensing a year of traditional therapy into about six sessions. Her advice for others centers on seeking out mentors, identifying and building on natural talents, and treating failure as a useful signal to redirect your energy elsewhere. She also credits David Burns's book "Feeling Good" with reshaping her view of anger, which she now sees as a largely outdated emotion that crowds out joy, even reframing her teenage daughter's outbursts as "a love song disguised as anger.
