Dr. Lea Lis
Dr. Lis is double board-certified in Child and Adult Psychiatry and is regarded as a respected expert in her field. She has over 25 years of experience in Psychiatry, has treated thousands of patients, has made numerous scholarly contributions, and is an author and national media voice on mental health.
Dr. Lea Lis’s calling to psychiatry and medicine began at age 15, when she first began working at Hillside Psychiatric Hospital — a formative experience that set the course for a distinguished career centered on the mental health of children and adults.
Dr. Lis is highly respected on the wide range of mental health challenges that children might face. Through her training and private practice, she has developed a deep expertise in working with modern families of all types. She treats conditions including ADHD, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, and developmental challenges in children and adolescents. Throughout her career, Dr. Lis has advocated for better care for children at both the professional and political levels.
A cornerstone of her clinical philosophy is the belief that early intervention and open family communication are essential to long-term child well-being. She holds that children thrive in loving and respectful environments, and her goal is to help all parents raise strong, secure, and resilient children who become strong, secure, and resilient adults.

Dr. Lis served as Assistant Clinical Professor at New York University School of Medicine, training the next generation of psychiatrists. Her peer-reviewed research has addressed critical issues in child mental health, including the impact of trauma on children and mentoring in psychiatric residency programs. These publications have appeared in the Journal of Psychiatric Practice and the Journal of Academic Psychiatry.
Professional Leadership
Dr. Lis is a member of both the American Psychiatric Association's National Ethics Committee and the New York County District Branch Ethics Committee — bodies that review member conduct and shape APA policy on ethical issues. She has also served on the APA's Board of Trustees and has presented widely at national psychiatric conferences, including the APA's annual meetings and the Institute of Psychiatric Services.
